Various artefacts from the Iron Age and Islamic Period were recovered from a range of large deep pits dug from the surface into Neolithic layers. Pits are usually bell-shaped and often over 2m deep and were filled with uncompacted ashy midden material. Artefacts were sporadically recovered in the midden rather than the bottom of the pits.
